Last October, Matt and I took a trip down to Evansville to visit with Phil and Jesse. They showed us around town and one of the stops was a festival in downtown Evansville. This festival was awesome, food vendors lined the streets and they all had something different. My favorite was the funnel cake.. mmm… funnel cake. I didn’t pay attention to what it was called, I just knew that there were over 80 food vendors and a few carnival rides. After seeing $6 funnel cakes this past summer at the State Fair I knew that we had to go back. So we made plans to visit the first week of October, when the festival is held. The West Side Nut club fall festival is the 2nd largest street festival in the US. Guess what #1 is…. Mardi Gras! Let’s just say they aren’t going to be moving up anytime soon. This year's festival just so happened to be the 88th annual fall festival.
As we were leaving the festival, Phil mentioned that there was a forest in the middle of town, he wasn’t kidding.Wesselman Woods Nature Preserve is a pristine oasis in Evansville's backyard and the largest urban forest in the nation.
Very beautiful, I would have never imagined this in the middle of any city. Iwould love to visit again in the spring andtake some pictures. While we were walking on a trail I realized something. This might be my morbid side coming out, butoddly enough the trails reminded me of the woods on the Harper’s Island.
